Cardboard Tear Strip

A cardboard tear strip is a built-in feature that lets people open a box without tools. It remains on the top, side, or around the box. When a person pulls the tab, the cardboard box opens in a straight, neat line.

This feature removes the need for scissors or knives. It also prevents damage to the items inside. The strip remains strong during shipping, cold storage, and humid conditions, but it opens easily with one pull.

At TheProductBoxes, we add tear strips to corrugated, kraft, rigid, and folding boxes. We are experts in tear tape manufacturing and offer many widths to fit your needs. You can start an order with 500 units, and we offer lower prices for larger amounts. We test every strip for strength before we ship your order.

Description

Cardboard Tear Strip For Security and Protection

Our cardboard tear strip is different from a perforated line. You can choose the inner fiber for each strip based on your box weight, wall thickness, and shipping route. Here is the detailed specification of cardboard tear strips for boxes.

Strip Width and Placement

Our strip widths range from 3mm to 12mm. Narrow strips work best for thin cardboard. Wide strips suit thick corrugated walls because they provide a broad path to open the box cleanly.

You can place tear strips on cardboard:

  • Top Seam: This is the standard choice for tear-open boxes. The strip runs across the top of the box. It is common for subscription and retail boxes.
  • Side Panel: This works well for boxes that open like a drawer or a tray.
  • Full Perimeter: The strip goes around the entire box. When you pull it, the whole top comes off. This shows if someone opened the package before the customer.

We can also place strips in custom spots based on your specific box size and design.

Compatible Box Formats

You can add a tear strip to these common box types:

  • Standard Shipping Boxes: Single or double-wall options.
  • Full Overlap Boxes: Where the flaps cover the entire top.
  • Mailers: Best for e-commerce and monthly subscription services.
  • Rigid Boxes: Solid styles with lids that lift off or have hinges.
  • Retail Cartons: Thin boxes made for store shelves.
  • Eco-friendly Boxes: Options made from Kraft or recycled materials.

If you do not see your specific box style here, please talk to our team. We check if a tear strip works based on the thickness of your cardboard packaging and how you build the box.

Print and Branding on the Strip

You can choose a specific color for the tear strip on custom-printed cardboard boxes so it is easy to see against the box. A bright color, like red on brown paper or white on black, helps your customer find where to open the box quickly. This small detail makes the first interaction with your product better.

We make these custom boxes as one complete order. You can print your full designs on white, brown, or foil surfaces. We do not add a separate fee to include the tear strip on orders of 1,000 units or more.

Order Tiers and Pricing

We provide cardboard tear strips in large amounts. The price per unit and the time we need to finish the work depend on how many you buy:

Easy Recycling for Tear Strips

Our cardboard tear strips are made with natural fibers and water-based glue, which can go straight into paper recycling bins. If you choose plastic strips, a user can pull the thread free in about two seconds. The thread comes off in one piece before they recycle the box. Upon request, we print removal instructions or simple icons on the inside of your box for no extra cost.
